Therapies

Naturopathic Medicine: Founded upon a holistic philosophy, naturopathic medicine combines safe and effective traditional therapies with the most current advances in modern medicine. Naturopathic medicine is appropriate for the management of a broad range of health conditions affecting all people of all ages.

Naturopathic physicians (N.D.s) are the highest trained practitioners in the broadest scope of naturopathic medical modalities. In addition to the basic medical sciences and conventional diagnostics, naturopathic education includes therapeutic nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy, natural childbirth, classical Chinese medicine, hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative therapy, pharmacology and minor surgery.

Acupuncture: The vital energy (qi) of the body flows in specific pathways. To be in a healthy state, the body's energy must be flowing smoothly and it must be sufficient in amount. Very fine, sterile, stainless steel needles inserted at specific points affect the flow of qi along these meridians. Acupuncture helps overcome illness by allowing the qi to move naturally. The feeling of acupuncture is often a warming or dispersing sensation, a feeling of pressure, or a dull ache. Overall it is a very relaxing experience.

Chinese Herbs: A Chinese herbal formula is often prescribed as a daily approach to balance the body and relieve illness. An average of ten herbs are formulated together either by cooking raw herbs and drinking the tea, or as a pre-cooked granular powder, or in pill form. The appropriate dosage is determined and progress is monitored over time.

Moxibustion: The Chinese herb called mugwort is dried and burned to provide warmth and nourishment to a specific point, pathway, or area. It is also another method used to move stagnant qi and blood.

Qi Gong: Qi Gong is translated as "energy work" or "energy cultivation". Practicing qi gong develops the skill of attracting vital energy. It is an exercise that uses specific body movements with a focused mind. There are many different forms of qi gong practiced throughout the world. Qi gong is a form of self healing and also a way for the practitioner to aid the healing process of another.

Cayce/Reilly Massage This massage technique uses a foundation of Swedish massage combined with gentle stretches and joint movements to connect the spirit, mind and body.

Healing Touch A wonderful therapy working with the body's aura. A great technique for when physical touch in to painful or not desired.

Acupressure This therapy uses finger pressure instead of needles. The body's energy, or chi is balanced and blockages cleared to promote wellness and health.

Colon Hydrotherapy (Colonics) A gentle process of cleansing the colon. This ancient practice now uses modern sterile equipment to detoxify the body from the inside.

Biotherapeutic Drainage A perfectly healthy being is exposed to aspects of the environment that act as health stressors (these can be physical toxins, or even difficult emotional/social challenges). Ideally, these external stresses would be processed and released from the body. However, over time, the body's ability to fully process and excrete these toxins becomes impaired, and storage of the toxins occurs. Individuals respond differently to their environment, and store these toxins in different tissues. The drainage system is organ and tissue specific. With it we are able to stimulate the release of toxins, their complete breakdown and excretion from the body, and the healing of stressed and damaged organ systems.

Cranial Sacral Therapeutics Core Synchronism is a healing modality created from the blend of Osteopathic Cranial Sacral Therapy, the Chinese Medicine based Polarity Therapy. It is very useful in treating the discomforts of pregnancy, and the common complaints of newborns (cholic, poor sleeping or feeding patterns, poor growth or weight gain, and general fussiness.) It can be a valuable therapy for all patient populations, helping to clear blockages and increase the efficacy of other treatments.
